Once an Ambassador always an Ambassador

Theresia’s second wave of Ambassadors concluded their activities in mid-2024. During their ambassadorship, Ciara Sudlow, Laurène Patard-Moreau and Javier Francisco Sanchez represented Ireland, France and Spain respectively where they successfully carried out several activities aimed at reaching new and diverse audiences across Europe.

Their experience was very positive as the programme has pushed them to step out of their comfort zones and do things they never thought they could do.

Laurène Patard-Moreau

Laurène Patard-Moreau is a French violinist from Toulouse (France) who lives and studies baroque violin in Amsterdam. Laurène is very creative, and has always a project in mind. Currently, she is learning how to play the mandolin, and Gypsy Jazz on the violin.

Patard-Moreau has organized two workshops under the concept “Dialogue autour de la musique Baroque” in collaboration with a French association based in Toulouse called Espoir 31, providing accommodation for vulnerable or excluded groups. The atelier included music, instrument demonstrations, musical exchanges and a fun Q&A. In conclusion, a playlist was shared with the public to invite and help them listen to more music.

Javier Sanchez Castillo

Javier Sanchez Castillo is a bassoon player from Spain who studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He is fascinated by nature and would like to connect this with his historical instrument.

Sanchez Castillo has organized two concerts-workshops under the title “Fuera de lo convencional – La musica Antigua” at the Conservatorio Professional de Avila and the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca. He explained what ancient instruments and historically informed practice are, also focusing on his reasons for studying the baroque bassoon. After a short concert with a sonata from Luigi Merci, Sanchez Castillo has invited students to try the baroque and classical bassoon.

Ciara Sudlow

Ciara Sudlow is an Irish/Australian violinist and violist studying a master of historical performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with a keen interest in Irish traditional music and improvisation. Ciara enjoys crafting projects with leather as a hobby.

Sudlow developed a concert called “Trad meets Baroque” exploring the crossover between Irish traditional and European baroque music through performances on historical instruments and story telling. They have performed concerts in Kilkenny and Dublin, hosted by the beautiful Dublin Castle and Rothe House, as well as one of the most iconic Irish traditional music pubs – The Cobblestone. The concerts in Dublin were in collaboration with Irish Baroque Orchestra for Dublin HandelFest 2024. Ciara wrote an article about this experience for The Strad: ‘Trad meets Baroque’ – how violinist and violist Ciara Sudlow landed her first concert engagements.
